It is, I believe, the ID number that is wanted on the conference registration form.

As for going to "My Profile", as you say, you can do that if you have already logged in and would generally already know your ID. The instructions are primarily for the person who cannot remember how to log into JewishGen at all. They would use the Password Request Form, which states, "Use this request form if you have forgotten your JewishGen ID and Password. Your previously-assigned JewishGen ID number, and the password which you selected, will be emailed to you." For that request, you need only your email address.

If you log into JewishGen using your email address rather than the ID number, then your suggestion would work for finding your ID.
